Wow....would love one....right now just on my wish list since I have to replace my crabapple....
Spending spree #8
I believe crabapples must support a lot of other life.
Oh, i love hearing about all these acquisitions!! I feel so much better now about dragging Hank around all morning to find more hot pink and orange zinnias! Now I REALLY am cutting myself OFF! No more plants until my trays of white & dark blue osteospermums come in on 11/30!!! I'm safe with those, because the order was placed before I was cut off. (please excuse the lawyer loophole logic! :)
And yes, Jan, you are a marvelous enabler! You'll just love all of YOUR colorful additions to our gardens. LOL
Woohoo!!! Camellias, crabapples, and HOT zinnias.
I've been browsing the Northern Lights Daylily site....oh, my! everyone I see, I want!
Oooh, I don't know that site...YET...i'll be checking it out when I feel strong. LOL. What were your favorites, Marilyn?
Oh yeah, I forgot to report that I didn't buy a single zinnia...or any other plant today!! I'm on the wagon!
Give me some of that strength, Louise!...some DL's I like are "Jane Trimmer" , "Nicole Ashby", "Sacred Ibis", "Wolverine Eyes".....I'm drooling, that's for sure.....
Bought more bulbs this morning as Van Engelen dropped the prices again.
"40%-off Van Engelen Happy Thanksgiving Flower Bulb Sale " They already shipped them today. Nice selection left and many in small numbers. Patti
It's a good company....there was a nice story in our paper when the owner passed away....he wasn't in charge anymore, his family had taken over, but he still showed up at the warehouse.....
I see the issue, Marilyn! I just lusted over many of the DLs on the Northern Lights site. Oh dear! I liked all of your favs, and I had a few of my own! Some are way beyond my budget, but others are very affordable. Sacred Ibis is a beauty, and I also liked Pumpkin Prince a lot, along with Cool Blue and Leprechaun Prince. Now that the two giant maples in our front yard at the farm are gone, that "island" area will have a lot more sun.....hmmmmmm. :)
OH NO...you two have been bitten!!! LOL
Yeah, thanks to you!! LOL
^_^
patti you are testing me - i saw the sale and picked out a few things - even wrote them down - and held off - to date anyway........................
Add iris to the bed DB.☺
No doubt about that, Lucy! I have a whole section of my veggie garden currently being used as a holding area for iris's waiting for a sunny home. :)
I caved & ordered 4 DLs.....
i caved as soon as i posted my link above and ordered silver star allium, white lion and ice king daff's
Oh, we are sooo bad!
Ha ha ha!
You guys are pillars of strength!! ^_^
Yay!!!!! There's strength in numbers here!!! Now I don't feel as bad! Guess I'd better get that daylily site back up!!! Which ones did you get, Marilyn? Good for you guys!!!! Keep it up! Doesn't it feel gooooood???
UGH, you made me look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I have no trouble passing up are day lilies.
I love them....I had several that bloomed all summer...Louise, I ordered Affair of the Heart, Answering Angels, Believe in Miracles, & Paradise Tanager....hmmm, now I notice a theme here, never saw the 'heavenly' aspect when I was ordering!
Very nice choices, Marilyn! Believe in Miracles is one of my top picks too.
So Jen....what are you ordering?? LOL
I just planted a ton of them from a co op, we'll see if there is any that don't make it then I'll replace but for now, concentrating on gifts for others
You have the right idea!
Wha, good choices. Plant them on a slope so you can look up at them. They both have huge interesting twisted blooms. I wished I had ordered Allium Silver Spring, but I had to show a modicum of restraint so I took it off the list.
I am not looking at DL's no matter how beautiful. I have some that are desperate to be dug and divided before I add any more. So I will just look for your postings to enjoy all your new DL acquisitions. Patti
patti my sincere thanks for validating my daff choices :)
Wha, When did I not love everything you choose? Nor when did I ever not like any type of a daffodil?
Now just to plant all my bulbs next week. I had planned on last week for the big push, but I had a bum knee and there was too much rain. The knee is better now and maybe I will get lucky with the weather when I get back on Sunday from time now being spent at the pottery studio in Boston playing in the clay. I loaded a kiln yesterday so tonight will be like Xmas when I open it or a nightmare. Opening for some good results, but always a crap shoot.
Still not looking at DL's, being strong and except for bulbs, I am going to have to be very fugal for the next few years as we are rebuilding the back half our Vt house. It had rotted away. The Project has finally started. Not pretty, yet. I will eventually end up with a kitchen that has the refrigerator actually in the space. I have designed what I think will be a wonderful improvement, but working within the confines of existing footprint has made some of it difficult. But all will be so much better than our old kitchen which was yea Ol' knotty pine, with no insulation, 7' ceilings, cracked plumbing, virtually no heat, multiply levels that where not level and virtually no windows so it was dark, dank and dreary. This was a spending spree that has turned out more than planned as nothing could be saved. Yikes, painful. Trying to help the economy, but actually it was about to fall down. I will keep you posted. Here is the first part of the tear down with the old outhouse gone as is the laundry, pantry and bathroom, but the old kitchen on the far side is still hanging on for a few more days. A new foundations is the first priority as there really wasn't one. Patti
Will be watching the evolution of this project excitedly. Glad you are able to rescue it. How fun to play with a new floor plan. I am sure you will flood it with light.
Good luck on the results of the kiln opening. Hoping you get what you desire.
I didn't know about White Lion or Ice King. They'd be very pretty additions to a hill of Ice Follies and King Alfred Daffs. Wonder if they naturalize well. Next year, in my case. Looking for scholarships and interview clothes this weekend.
Patti's house project looks like great potential. I've lived my whole life in morphing houses, and I love to design additions. You could call me a closet architect LOL.
Love the Lion King daff....Patti, that's quite a project for the house, but it's definitely worth saving....will love to see the finished product!
patti i see a nice granite post there:)
good luck with the project - and if you pull back on your plant purchases it will save me money too!:)
Wha, you would notice that. It marks our property line, can't spare it or all the others around the property, but lots of good rocks that would be fair game. They took down much more of the old house which I will post later, off to dinner with pottery pals. Kiln was mostly good. Patti
Funny, Bill - I noticed that nice granite post too. Patti - I see wonderful potential for a really fun project and what sounds like a neat kitchen. I hope you get just what you want, and I'm excited for you! It will be Christmas morning all over again when you open your eyes to a sparkling new kitchen. :)
Rosemary - I too love to design additions and renovations. My Dad was an architect before he built a commercial contracting business from the ground up, and if I had been older when he died, I would have loved to take over his business. Now I can at least do it for fun.
Louise, I'm not surprised that you love designing buildings considering the landscaping and gardens that you've shown us. For me it's just a diversion from the rest of life.
I understand what you mean, Rosemary. Whenever I have a long wait somewhere, if I have paper and a pencil I start concocting house plans. Hank and I are not at the stage in life now where we are planning to build or renovate anymore, but I still do it just for fun. I've always liked the idea of a house built entirely around a courtyard with some areas of grass for the dogs, and gardens and fountains for me to play with. Of course I'd have a garden shed space that would open into the courtyard so a mower or trimmer and all my garden needs would be handy. LOL. Behind the shed would be a garage that would also open into a laundry, mudroom cabinet storage room leading to the kitchen, which of course would have views of the courtyard gardens... (and on and on....) think the Spanish style of many older homes here with an enclosed courtyard influenced me a lot.
