Found this guy munching on my basil. He had 2 light brown friends with him but I can't seem to find them now. He is close to 2 inches long and apparently very well fed! He has been given a home in my daughter's room so she can watch him turn in to a butterfly (or most likely a moth!). I'm just wanting to ID and find some info so we can research our new friend. Thanks everyone!

Most likely a yellow virginian tiger moth "wooley bear".
They come in cream, lt brown, lt orange, dk brown and every color it seems in between.
And they will eat about anything plant material in my experience.

Wonderful! Thanks so much! Now for the research...
