Mushrooms, plenty this year!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I can't believe you got a mushroom!

Thomaston, CT

Haven't seen any here yet...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

after today I think I'll be seeing some

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Got some shrooms popping up but im not the least bit shocked with the amount of humidity we've had.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

No shrooms but tons of dog vomit slime mold, looks really nasty but I read up on it and it's completely harmless to the plants

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Would make a great punk rock band name.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

proabably already is, I'm not up on any of the new bands, listening to rock station dj comes on and lists the bands that just played one was "Saliva"

Thomaston, CT

Had some erotic looking fungus in the hosta bed the other day......my son found it, so I didn't tell him the proper name....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

salvia can be a drug.. think that's why the name Jen

ask Miley, She knows.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee, my 16 yr old great nephew who will be an eagle scout candidate this year, who is a counselor at a camp this week for kids who have Down's Syndrome, and whois a growler in a band. The band's name- Lobotomize the Leader. Otto is 6'5" and wears a size 15 shoe. The name cracks me up. There are some way-out names.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

onewish, I believe it was "saliva", as in "spit", not salvia.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

hee hee thanks McCool, yes that is correct saliva as in spit, LOL

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok so I can't read.. LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

#1.) Found these on my walk around the back-forty yesterday morning.
# 2 & 3) This is what they looked like this morning after yesterday's rain storm.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That's an interesting one.....this is the time of year my Dad would head out for them....but he also went in Oct. for a different variety....wish I had paid more attention to what he picked....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice, Jen.

Probably Morel, Marilyn.

Thomaston, CT

No....no morels....ones he called chestnuts, and 2 other varieties that I cannot recall...plus hen of the woods....I only ate the hen of the woods since they are a fungus, not a mushroom, & I didn't think they could be confused with anything poisonous....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice Jen, I was thinking the same thing...all this humidity and rain should build a nice growing condition for them.
It did!!

Nice variety....will have to go looking on my walk today...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Geez, that second to last one looks like a satellite dish it's so big

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

I hope you picked that giant puffball this time. I got greedy one year and left one too long, thinking it might get even bigger, but instead it just became too old and inedible.

Thomaston, CT

Not all puffballs are edible.....

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Agreed, if they are black in the middle instead of white all the way through, they aren't edible. I don't think that that type ever gets so big.

Thomaston, CT

Thanks.....if I'm lost in the woods, I hope I remember that! I think I found a large clump of hen (chicken, I'm never sure which) of the woods......but I won't touch it unless someone can ID it for me.....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks for that info McCool!
Just 2 more although the bigger one is still growing. :) I've noticed more of the little button ones this year than ever before.

Thomaston, CT

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I've found myself walking alot lately...wandering is more the term. Anyways, i've come across some lovely clumps of shrooms in my journeys.
