What are fishing crickets and where would you get them?
Help!
live crickets like in your yard. Places that sell fishing bait should have them. My feed store has them too.
Meal worms would be good too
We live to far up north to have any bait shops,my tsc sells meal worms that are dried probably has the same amount of protein
I bet he'll love them!
If you need meal worms go to a Wild Birds Unlimited or some place like that - they usually keep a little fridge in the store with fresh worms. They usually sell them 500 at a time for around 10 or 11 bucks. Also, I've been able to pick up fishing worms and crickets at my local Wal-Mart back in the sporting goods dept. You might check there too.
Thanks I`ll try that
using fishing worms puts your birds at risk to get gape worms.
I would try the meal worms maybe crumble with some boiled or raw egg yolk to entice your baby to try it.
He got meal worms mixed with cottage cheese for a treat today and I bought some flock raiser that is 20% protein for all the chickens today and will keep them on it untill they are fully feathered again. As long as I provide oyster shell I could feed them flock raiser all winter couldn`t I?
yes that is all I have ever fed mine with a bowl of grit and oyster shells mixed together on the side.
Get that girl a chicken saddle....
Poor guy - Hope things get better for him.
She had one on this summer, the rooster has been gone since August, just slow getting new feathers in
Didn't realize she was molting until I saw the other post with the others with the same problem...Maybe get them some with fleece to keep them warm since you're so far north...I know they will be just fine without them - I'm just being a mother hen because I worry over my chickens staying warm.
I have never understood why chickens choose the late fall to molt!
