The earthquake hit us on Vancouver Island at 4 minutes to 11 am PST. WOW I am still shaking from the shaking. Did not know if I should run outside or stay inside under the kitchen table. Scary!!
We have been told umpteen times 'the big one is comming'
No reports of any injuries in British Columbia so far.
Appears the windows were blown out of Seatac Airport in Seattle, Washington State and the airport is shut down!!
6.2 EARTHQUAKE !!!
Just heard on the news, there are no problems at seatac airport. Joy
OM Gosh! You guys hang on! I just checked in here to see what was going on...never expected to read 'earthquake'. You guys please be safe. Prayin' for ya' , LIsa
Yes Karma, seen the damage, wonder where Joy has been? Hospital where my daughter works has been damaged, only building so far they say has been damaged in the Vancouver area!! Wall colapsed in the hospital!!
Heard there are 30 people trapped at the top of the space needle in Seattle!! How terrifying.
Sorry Gardendragon, Listened to the news accounts and this is what they first said, but now they're telling and showing a whole different story. Joy
Yes saying it was 7.0 around the epicentre in Olympia,WA. The quake was felt as far away as Kelown, BC!
Scary, I am off to Washington State tomorrow, down to Tacoma for 4 days to the SewExpo, which is VERY close to Olympia!!
They say we will be getting aftershocks, hope they come today and not tomorrow when I am on my way to Tacoma!! Makes you not want to leave home.
I'm glad to see you are all ok! I just sat here and went... oh my gosh, Joy and Karma are in WA! I'm so happy you are safe!
Gardendragon - be careful, we need our Mother Robin!
Kathleen
Wouldnt you know it, I was in Seattle this morning for a meetingin a highrise
, and let me tell you, we all got very friendly when the bulding shook and shook and kept on shaking. It was unbelievable, then the traffic coming down to vancouver, WA was a mess, and luckily they started closing off sections of I-5 AFTER I had passed it. My son was at lunch in school, and they had all the kids get under the table. the worst part for me was not knowing if my children were okay and hoping that they werent scared. I was petrified, I can honestly say my bowels turned to jelly (luckily I didnt evacuate - lololol) the drive home was endless, and I thought of Joy when I drove thru Kalama, such a nice town...
Anyway, hope everyone else in the Pacific northwest survived
Pebble
My Gosh!! I had no idea! I don't know how you girls can take that!! The thought of a 7.0 earthquake has me shaking and I'm the entire country away. I know I do enough whining and crying about the snow & cold but I'll take a North Easter any day! I hope that everyone is safe!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad you are ok Pebble. How scary, you being in the area that was hit so hard. We contacted all our relatives who live through the area and all are ok and have no damage. Glad everyone is ok! Joy
Karma - -am glad you're ok - -Jenra and I were both worried about you. I called two of my other friends there - -couldn't get through to the one in Woodinville, but she em'd me tonite and said she was fine......my best friend in Eastsound (Orca Islands) was fine as well. Our friends in Spokane and their relatives across the state ok too. From what our news was saying (as well as national news tonight), there shouldn't be any aftershocks since the quake was 50 KM deep......that's what the guy from the Denver Geo Center was saying. I hope for all there are none...they're usually worse than the first one.
Having grown up in CA, I have been thru a couple of these things myself....not fun! But then, neither are hurricanes or tornadoes! Gee......actually I'm thinking maybe I'm pretty safe here in Jersey after all! :-) Been here 6+years and haven't had any natural disasters......unlike every other state I've lived in!
Am so glad everyone's ok! Now......it's tea time to calm those nerves (or chocolate, whatever your pleasure!) :-)
Ladies, as you know, I was very much relieved when I heard from you letting me know all was well. Pebble, glad you didn't 'evacuate' either! LOL!!
Having gone thru the Loma Prieta quake here in California I know the feeling well, and jello knees is just putting it mildly.
To all our friends up there, stay safe and enjoy the ride! :()
Jenra
Gardendragon, I sent you an e-mail. Michele
