Surprised. No soil or composting forum

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I have been given a smallish composting tumbler. I know a little about composting but not a lot. I have searched Google and gotten some tips from the Sierra Club and Mother Earth News. But it is always good to talk to folks who practice composting. Some folks have great tips.
Am I missing something or is there a good place on DG to discuss this? I don't see anything in the discussion forums list about this.

Never mind. I actually found a Soil and Composting forum through a link on another forum. Don't why I didn't see it before.

I'm sure before the week is out you'll be a pro...was just about to go in search of a link for you!

I did look for it under the forums, just didn't see it. I wonder why they show my membership dating back only to August 28. I joined in 2001, 10 years ago.

Odd, going to check it out

Did you get any damage from Irene??

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

No damage from Irene as we live up in the Appalachians, about 300 miles from the coast. However, the mtns. run diagonally and in the smaller states, closer to the coast, the whole state gets surge or floods. My in-laws, who live on a little island in Chesapeake Bay, got a lot of wind and rain but no real problems. However, their son in Vermont had flooding that washed his driveway out but he had parked the car away across the street where no creek ran under the culvert there.
I have been through many hurricanes, but when they sit and grind away for 9 days, the damage is mostly flooding. 100 mph winds will not usually do a lot of damage if a tree doesn't fall on the house. But the flooding in these over-long hurricanes are really as much of a problem.
Did you know that an average-weight person can walk outside in a hurricane of 100 mph? Well, stagger outside, anyway. As long as wind doesn't drop something on you or send a 2x4 right through you. As you can tell this experience came to me as teenager.

Glad you were ok...
I was watching newscasters standing in the wind, was indeed swaying from side to side but managed to do telecast..thank goodness they were by the ocean and it didn't seem as though there was anything around to go flying...now yet another storm brewing!

2 more storms brewing and a 3rd mass trying to get organized in the Caribbean. Eek!

Let's hope neither are heading your way. Texas sure could use the rain, would be nice if it went their way...
