It looks like a camel cricket of sorts possibly.

do you know if they are native in the uk ? also the 2 spikes on his back seem to small to be a camel cricket.

It looks like one of the Shieldback Katydids (subfamily Tettigoniinae). I'm not familiar with the genera that reside in the UK.

Thanks for your reply and by looking at other pics of them it seems to be the same, Think shes a little bit lost and a long way from home, not sure how she got here?

Cool. I didn't know these were called bush crickets in the UK. Bush crickets = katydids. Same family (Tettigoniidae), and same subfamily in this case (Tettigoniinae).

Thanks for all your help guys, didnt want to let her go if she was not ment to be here, but yep shes a dark bush cricket, lots around in this area but i have never seen one like that before, just shows how wonderful nature is :)
