Please HELP Identify this big bug

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I thought this huge bug was a mouse in my garden in a ceramic boot so I put a cover on the boot and was going to let it out in my feild and when I went back this is what I found.. I kinda forgot to go let it out and the bugger didnt make it.. the size in this pic really doesnt justify its size so I put a quarter next to it... Please help been trying to figure this out for a long time...

There are many types of cicadas and I wouldn't know which one you have in the picture.

Here is a web site to get you started on ID'ing which one you have.

Possibly the Dog Day Cicada. Tibicen canicularis. They occur regularly in ME.

wow its hard to narrow cicadas down to a species but I know that it is the shape of the 17 & 13yr broods. The only one that came close to looking like this one is the swamp cicada and the Tibicen Winnemana... I think it is the female... does anyone know for sure??
