CLOSED: What the heck!

Decatur, GA

I have had these flies swarming in my house the past week or so. Come back into a room that what empty to find a dozen of these flying around. In the basement, the kitchen, the bedroom. Its terrible. Yuck. My house is clean for the most part so I am perplexed.
I guess its some kind of fly but why is it appearing by the multiples? If I knew more about it I am hoping I can prevent it from happening again. And stop it now from continuing.
Any help is appreciated.

It looks like a Flesh Fly.

Why such numbers are in your home, I cannot say.

Thank you kwanjin. I am totally mystified why I would so many of these in my house since, as I read, the larvae grow in carrion, dung or rotting vegtable material. I have none of these around my house. :-) Or even in the yard except the compost which is some distance away.
Hopefully someone else might have a clue.

Not to be alarming but sometimes something will die in your walls and they feed on that. We had a mouse die in our wall once and got flies in the house because of it.

I can understand that but I would expect there to be the customary smell associated with that type of event and so far it hasn't been apparent.
Quit a mystery.
Thanks for you input.

I hope someone can tell you. I'm curious, as well.

I have had a few critters die in my house and not even know it...until the flies appear.
It is not really that hard to miss - sometimes it will only last a day or two and if the windows are open - or you are gone - you could very well miss it all together. Especially if it is in an attic or crawl space/basement.

I guess its possible something died but I have no way of knowing because I never noticed a smell. They hung around for a number of days despite chasing a bunch outside and waging a bit of chemical warfare with others.
But they are gone now, thank goodness.
