I spotted this fellow on tall marsh grass along the river this morning. Never seen anything quite like him before. About 2 1/2 inches long. Back end looks like a grasshopper, but the front legs are different. Maybe a juvie/nymph of the kind that starts in water and "graduates" to land? (This is in coastal SC.)
Any assist in the I.D. would really be appreciated!

CLOSED: Grasshopper or...what?
I think this could be a Cattail Toothpick Grasshopper, Leptysma marginicollis ssp. There is at least one sub-species that lives in our area. I love the look of these grasshoppers.

Well, BINGO, Flatpickit! You nailed it. Thanks for the bugguide link, too. This one was on the marsh grass at a landing on the Ashley up here in Summerville.
Thanks for the help. :)
