Sad day in WIlliamsburg

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

jylgaskin, you rock! =D

I think I would get a few for those cement statues of chikens, peacocks, dugs, poultry of any sort. Display them right in the front garden in a tasteful bed of petunias or something. And laugh, HAHA, everytime I pulled into the drive! But that's just me....

(Zone 6b)

Get a huge speaker and play the sounds of crowing roosters and cries of peacocks. Okay, yes joking.

Richmond, TX

- Maybe just once a year just because.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

No, I'll just get bigger outdoor speakers for my rock and roll.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

The Chicken Dance!?!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Iron Maiden and Nirvana.

Richmond, TX

Your neighbors will be pleading for the return of the roosters!

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Flamingos. Very pink ones. With accompanying R&R. Iron Butterfly might be appropriate. And loud:)

I love pink flamingos. And neighbors don't.

I actually had a pair that lit up at night. I think I'll see if i can find them again....

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Think toilet fountain. Unfortunately, the person who complained is only here on ocasional weekends to see his girlfriend. He likes to sleep late and I guess the peacock was over at my sons house and he must have heard him from there. So there really isn't anything I could do to annoy the creep.

Cat, I had a huge motorized light up grasshopper in my yard for years.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Pink toilet fountain? Ooooooo!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Just can't figure out how to make the flushie sound.

Richmond, TX

It will need to be prerecorded - and amplified.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

I just caught all this! My Oh MY! I Still think a good human interest story with the media would really shake a few miserable people up. Youd be surprised how many people here in Georgia have been given the ok because of the media getting hold of it! City halls really hate bad press!!

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Be still my heart....a glowing grasshopper??

My neighbors will love me,

or end up in the cow field.....

Richmond, TX

- and cows can be so destructive! They have very little appreciation for fine art.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a very large, painted, cement pig. No one can see it really but me unless they drive up the lane. Wonder what your neighbors would think of that!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I saw a 12 foot cow going down the road on a trailer today. Oh how I wish.....

(Zone 5b)

Porkpal, you crack me up!

Conway, NC

I am flipping through this, and remembering with horror the Zoning Guy at the courthouse that every single thing he could possible do to make us wish we had never moved here.
I was listening to Garrison Keillor's Christmas recording.. the Magendanz family... and they have huge strobe- like lights that shot up into the night sky.
I think you need one... with a ROOSTER on it!!
Like Batman used to have.
AND a motion sensor somewhere on your front path, or front door area, that crows/moos/barks/farts whenever someone comes to the door.
BTW- our zoning guy found out infractions BY FLYING OVER in his widdle plane. No kidding. They are just possessed.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Our zoning board certanly isn't that bad! They don't go out looking for infractions. In fact, other than the sign ordinance (you can't even put up a yard sale sign without a permit of $15), they don't inforce anything without a complaint. The problem is that they sit in their little meetings and make all these silly rules and it's up to you to find out about them. Then you wait, hiding with your head down for some buttwad to make a complaint. Then they come after you.
Even the township supervisor agreed that he did not meet all the zoning requirements.

Richmond, TX

I am SO glad I live in a rural area away from city/suburban ordinances!

Conway, NC

just wait. if you are close at all to a town, you can be APPROPRIATED. When I was little, we lived in a very rural area, that was just somehow "added" to the City of Suffolk, VA. no kidding.
we got ZERO out of it, but had to pay city taxes... I don't remember having to give up any critters though, but a lot of grownups were ANGRY over this.
like you say, a few people sit there and make rules, unbeknownst to the rest of us.
when we were finishing renovations here, and had a SHED built, we had to be careful that it was not taller than the house!
who in the world ever came up with that???
everyone around here was AMAZED, they had no idea of that ordinance.
I loved the response of the Mennonite builder.
He looked at the shed, then he looked at the house, and said "well, if it ends up taller, we can always put a cupola on the house.."" HA HA HA!

Richmond, TX

I think we are safe from annexation for the moment. The population/property value around here is so small the taxes would be minimal.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Jyl, I've been a journalist all my life & think you really should find someone at the newspaper who is interested in your tale. You are a poster child for how this new law wrongs good citizens, and that would make a great story. Trust me, we are always looking for great stories!
