I couldn't find an entry in the list for this family, but I noticed from previous communications to me that there are a number of you who are familiar with dioscorea also. This one is supposed to have large tubers with black skin and white flesh. Photo taken in Chiapas, Mexico, in someone's yard. I believe they grow wild, but they're also cultivated.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Perhaps someone else here knows.
I don't know much about Dioscorea, but they are the yams, not sweet potatoes. They are not in the Convolvulus plant family. I recently came across a tuber for sale in Thailand of Dioscorea batattus. I had to laugh, because that very name makes taxonomic red flags go up. It was also labled Cinnomon Vine.
I'm betting it's D. alata, due to the stem flanges. Thanks everyone.
