Ever have Gardenia seedlings??

My neighbor has several little seedlings that dropped seeds from her gardenia bush - I need to get a pic of them. I have never heardd of this happening.

I haven't either, but I have seen gardenia seeds listed for sale. I have always started mine from cuttings.

If she's got a bunch of them, are you sure they're gardenia seedlings? They definitely can make seeds, but in all my time growing them I never had any volunteers. So if there's a lot of them, I'd be suspicious that they're some sort of weed that just happened to pop up near the gardenia.

I checked them out yesterday - they are the little kleim's Hardy Daisy gardenias. But, yes they are definately seelings, I have a couple of these bushes too but they never dropped seeds - probably because I always deadhead and prune them to shape after they have bloomed - I haven't done it yet this year, maybe i won't - just for fun!

As soon as it stops raining I am going out to the greenhouse and look at my Kleim's to see if they have any seedlings. Hmmmmmm.Very interesting.

I may have to look for some of those. I love gardenias. I have the real real real old fashioned one ( from my great grandma's sister) and the gardenia radicans, but none of the newer varieties.
