Oh my that is amazing and beautiful. You should post that on the fungi forum and see what it is.

Can any of the Hydrangea growers please tell me what's going on with this? Are the red splotches some kind of disease?

Entlie, I made your pickles and they are delicious! We have been eating them on sandwiches and in salads. Mine are not as pretty as yours because the majority of the peppers I used were half way between green and red, that muddy color, but they taste fabulous. I had gotten tot he farmers market late and that was all that was left. Going to try and get to there earlier this week and get first dibs on the bright reds, greens and yellow peppers.

Thanks for a great recipe, it is a keeper.

Ardesia, You are very welcome. If you like a spicy pickled pepper condiment for Chinese food, I'll send you another recipe :)

No Fungi news. I posted my weird mushroom query on the DG Fungi Forum, and have had nary an answer.

This is my first year growing cassia alata, and the largest - 8'x8' - has just begun to bloom. I had to zoom up to take this pic.

MmeX, I have a hydrangea with similar spots, and I have no idea why.

I've been handpicking catapillers off the one you gave me each day - icky green ones - small - but still icky lol

I don't have caterpillars, at least none that I can see. But I do have lots of aggressive ants all over mine. Looking forward to that luminous yellow against a deep blue autumnal sky.

I also love close ups of the tiny leaves/branches just as they begin to unfurl.

They are neat plants .. but ant magnets. Also, unless you want a forest of cassia next year you'll be wanting to cut off most of the seed pods while they are still small .. once they get large it's not as easy.

I read that this plant has naturalized as far north as parts of Oklahoma. It's hard to believe such a beautiful, tropical looking plant can self seed in that climate. I'm also surprised this plant isn't sold at area garden centers.

The seeds are hard coat seeds, have a very long shelf life and seems to be a very adaptable plant as far as conditions it will grow in - but it is beautiful! When I grew them I had people knocking on my door asking what they were.

Passiflora 'Blue Bouquet'

I don't really care for the blue & purple passies, but yours is making me think about changing my mind! That is beautiful!

An Ivy Leaf Morning Glory, Ipomoea hederacea that has naturalized in my area though thankfully not invasive is starting to bloom right on schedule! The flowers are tiny!

Thanks, MmeX. I love our native passiflora, but it grows so aggressively it completely covered and killed a small tree last year. So far, this passiflora doesn't seem nearly as aggressive. I'm also growing Passiflora 'Clear Sky', which hasn't bloomed yet.

Princess flower (Tibouchina Urveana). DG plantfile lists this plant as cold hardy to zone 9a, so I plan to take cuttings before frost.

Passiflora 'Clear Sky'. It looks just like Passiflora 'Blue Bouquet' to me. Looking forward to the orange colored fruit.

Whoa! That is stunning!

Thanks, Entlie and MmeX. I love that they're pleasantly fragrant, but I think Lowes mislabeled them. They appear identical.
Keep safe, Entlie! I hope a band of rain hits my backyard, MmeX.

I noticed yesterday that some needed a good watering. Storms were firing up all around me last night - lots of wind, thunder and lightning. Just checked my rain gauge, and my yard received a measly 0.2". Will be breaking down the latest cassia alata that snapped yesterday, and doing lots of spot watering. Hope you have a great day, Deanna;)

what a truly splendid day spent in the yard...where to start? 8 new Chrysalis in the Butterfly house, Palamedes Butterflies flitting about the yard with Skippers and Sulphers - it was nearly two hrs before I realized how much time I had spent capturing them on video and pictures..

oops pictures would be good wouldn't they LOL Skipper (have been trying to figure out which one) on pond elephant ears

Awww how cute! I've had an explosion of anole hatchlings in the last 6 weeks! Here's a baby that hatched the other day .. mom must have laid the egg in the geranium pot and he's sitting on a geranium leaf so you can sort of get an idea of just how teeny this baby was! He couldn't have been more than 12 hours old.

I love that Tricyrtis, I have some seeds I got from Parks last year, Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki' .. had no luck getting them to germinate last year but I'll try again this year. If anyone can offer suggestions for success please let me know!
