howdy T. At first I thought it was at YJ but when I googled pics, their bodies were black. therefore, I'm not sure of what it is.

oops I wasn't clear enough. I meant to say the bodies of the ones I googled are black and yellow, whereas the pics I posted are more like brown and yellow.

Dear Hazel, you are on the ball! 'Tis a paper wasp. This link says the body may be black but can be brown also. Considered a good insect for gardeners. Not aggressive unless bothered.
