Timed mist on back porch?

Christiana, TN(Zone 6b)

I want to start juniper, quince, rose, etc. cuttings on my back porch which is shaded. I'm thinking of setting up a mister with a timer and just put the cuttings in pots with no other protection. Possible? Anyone done it?

Yes, its possible however do consider "wind drift" since mist will blown all over the place. You could build a mist bench with floating row cover over it to let in light and air but block wind. I saw one greenhouse that used clear shower curtains hung with rings (just like in the bathroom) on a pvc frame - seemed to work ok.

Thanks very much for the tips. :-) I guess I'll wait till next year now.

You might still have time to get them in the ground and going. I root a ton of stuff over the winter. I make sure they don't dry out and try to increase the humidity. I have a small hobby greenhouse. The shower curtin idea sounds kool. you might try some of the clam shell clear containers the grocery stores use in bakery, a mini greenhouse of sorts. I don't know what kind of budget you have to try this out?
Quince - simi hardwood cuttings
Juniper depending on the species are from hardwood cuttings mostly
Rose _ just about any cuttings.
Its worth a try as its only a bit of time and a few supplies.
I hope this helps

Thanks, Dave. I do plan to root cuttings in the ground over winter. I just stick them in the place where I want them to grow. Roses and quince root well for me this way. And sometimes a juniper will root also.
I'm going to save the mist for summer rooting.

You would be amazed at how much you can root with just a bit of effort and prope supplies. I love you screen name.. is it wabbit season???

Man, it's always wabbit season around here. My dog and my cats snag one here and there. But there are still too many. :-p
