Dana - Beautiful photos. Is your plant Ipomoea carnea?
If so, you might want to read this thread since you are in Florida:

A older woman sells plants that she grows these must be seedlings that come up she sells for a couple bucks its living in dry conditions thanks for the info
I believe Jeremy said his growing conditions were the same as yours. Maybe at some point they won't be considered noxious weeds and prohibited in Florida. I've personally never seen them growing wild anywhere in Florida! LOL! But if they are, I bet they would be beautiful in numbers! Much nicer than the Brazilian Pepper trees that are everywhere! Ugh! LOL!
Thats for sure there was a person over by St, Pete selling them on ebay lol
I know at one point, there were some Florida seed selling businesses selling seeds for it to Florida gardeners. Goes to show that many businesses don't check the Florida Prohibited Plant link. I've actually purchased plants that were also prohibited in Florida from Lowes and HD. LOL! Apparently none of us had any idea that they were prohibited. I just naturally assumed that something sold in a big box store is legal to sell here. LOL! Goes to show how easily such things slip through the system.

Anything listed as a PAP1 or PAP2 is prohibited. (Which unfortunately, Ipomoea carnea Jacq. ssp. fistulosa (Mart. ex Choisy) D. Austin is on the list.)

With ebay you can't even imange the stuff that enters here with gift on it!
LOL! Oh yes I can!!!! LOL!
A bit of a shock, isn't it?!!!
As long as you have the money you can get what you want :)
Money makes the world go round! lol
It seems to me that that guy, Jeremy?, corrected himself to say that he meant to say that I. aquatica was the banned species, and that he was mistaken that the swamp specie I.carnea ssp fistulosa was that specie. In any event, much research was done and put on the table for all. I always wondered, and now I KNOW, I.carnea ssp.carnea is a VINE, not a shrub or tree.
After reading the whole thread, I came away with the understanding that I.carnea ssp. fistulosa is not banned in Florida. Frank
Here it is in black and white and color, Frank:

If you scroll down to near the bottom of the page under Noxious Weed Information, where it is listed as prohibited in Florida by the USDA.
Thanks Becky. That certainly clarifies that point. Somehow it is hard to imagine it as an aquatic specie. We probably just have never seen images of it in water. Thanks again.
Frank - I grew one for a couple years (before I knew they were prohibited) and mine did NOT like to be over-watered. All the leaves would turn yellow & drop and it would go bare except for blooms! So that is why I still can't believe it is a noxious aquatic plant. Mine sure didn't seem to like water at all! It seemed to be more of a drought tolerant bush. LOL! Go figure!
It is also interesting that the states that have the worst weed species there are, have no ban. What would Sir Joseph Banks, the Father of Kew, say today? He spent most of his life bringing new species back to England, and they haven't been overrun yet.
