Noticed this little guy hanging in a dark spot. It looks like a ladybug, but I've never seen this color configuration before... Any idea which variant it would be?
CLOSED: Ladybug variant?
Whatever it is, that's pretty cool!
It's a Tortoise Beetle of some kind. I'm still checking to find which for your area.
This is a lady beetle that recently emerged from it pupal 'shell'; at this stage, it is called a teneral adult. In a few hours, it will have assumed its 'normal' color pattern.

Ah, interesting - and thanks for pointing this out!
I've never seen anything like it, but I guess that's one of the things about macro photography: you purposely go around looking for things that you would never pay attention to or notice otherwise :)
I couldn't find many similar pictures online though, and in the ones I found the spots where dark even at this stage. Does this imply that this guy would is a white-spotted one, or does the spots also change color?
It will be white-spotted with a darker background color - such as in the specimen seen at http://tinyurl.com/3hfu9gr
Very interesting. Thanks, Flapdoodle.
Ok, thanks a lot guys! I'm guessing this is as far as I get with this one so I'll mark it solved :)
