Mysterious Fly/Beetle

Hull, United Kingdom

Hi Guy's. The last thing I want is to be a pain. But if one of you knowledgeable members could have a look at the picture, it would enable me to sleep better because try as I might I just cannot identify this tiny Fly/Beetle which I find basking on the leaves of my apple mint and on the Sedum Telephium 'Orpine' which I have pictured for you. I apologise for the tiny shot, but It did not like me getting any nearer and would fly off if I got too close. Whatever it is I would dearly love to know. All or any help much appreciated. Regards Walt.

The closest I can come is the Scarlet Plant Bug. Lopidea. But without a clearer pic, I can't say if that is your bug. I can't seem to find if that one is even in your area.

Hi KwanJin. Thanks for your reply. It seems to be dark coloured. Certainly not red. Very tiny, about 1 cm in length. I have put another picture on, the best I have I am afraid. Hope it might help you. Regards Walt.

Now, it looks more like a Leaf Hopper. I really can't tell. Someone else will have to give it a go.

Hi Kwanjin. Sorry to have put you to so much trouble on this one. Just discovered that it is a Mirid Bug. Heteratoma Planicornis. Hope that this gives you as much pleasure as it gives me. Thanks for trying. Regards Walt.
