We're starting off HOT! What's blooming in your gardens?
Coral Honeysuckle
August Bloomers!
There isn't a whole lot actively blooming right now (Flame Acanthas, Zinnias, Salvia darcyi, Lantana horrida), even the Salvia greggiis seem to be between bloom cycles. I'm just glad that I've been able to keep everything alive so far. Fingers firmly crossed.

Thats an odd looking honeysuckle, is it just the pic. The leaves are strangely shaped.

In the pic the vine looks more like trumpet vine?

I just love how you call them "hairy toads"! Cracks me up!! Mine haven't started blooming yet.
Neither have mine, the leaves have dry areas although I water them.
I thought the heat would of knocked it back but it has been blooming non stop since April. It has also grown around 1 foot since the start of June. I think mine is on steroids...
My one toadlily has also been blooming for a while. It does look a bit crispy but keeps sending out tiny flowers.
C
Mine also look a little crispy on some leaves, but they're hanging in there! Most of my daylilies out in the front are also crispy critters. I've been watering every 2-3 days by hand, so I know they're getting some water.
See? you do have flowers!!!
Oh by the way! the Fame flower you gave me is blooming too, even though it is very little.
I love them and hope they come back next year. I read they reseed so I am hopeful. They are also very easy to start from a piece.
Last of the Drummond Phlox.
That is called Cape Honeysuckle. It is a beautiful orange and can be invasive. Atleast in my yard. :)
I love it... some things just seem to love this weather.
I have seed for the white cypress vine but didn't plant them this spring and odd, but the white TX star is blooming but I think I lost the red.
Spider mites are on my star hibiscus, first time I have seen this. They are on other plants as well. I hate spider mites quite a bit.

Is that hardy Stephanie? It is lovely and bee approved! Wonder if I could grow it in a pot?
C
Stephanie, that looks gorgeous, I told how pretty it is.

Cheryl, yes it is hardy and a very strong grower. Why do do want it in a pot?
Because it is listed as being invasive and the common one was very much so in my yard. I am still pulling up its runners. I want to keep it from spreading all over.

Cheryl, I'm glad Josephine popped in to answer your question, because my answer was going to be, "I don't know!" LOL
Josephine, the bloom is just gorgeous!! I would imagine the color is even more intense when the temps are cooler. Everything seems to be bleaching out because of the sun. My rain lilies have been blooming (weirdos!) and they're normally pink. They've been blooming yellow.
Dale, that is very pretty, I do have P. lutea but haven't seen it bloom yet, it seems to be rather slow.

Cheryl P. foetida does sucker, but about the same as P. incarnata. I don't mind the suckers it gives me a chance to give some to friends, but if you want it in a pot I think that a five gallon pot would hold a sizable one.
Well, evidently P. lutea doesn't like it where i put it, or maybe it hasn't been there long enough, we shall see.
