I once almost made a gift mistake with a braid of garlic. I was visiting my aunt and her family over the Christmas holiday, and she had suggested that all gifts we exchanged be either home grown or home made. I carefully packed a beautiful, 16 bulb braid of garlic for her, with a lavender and thyme bunch tucked in the bow. My cousins were to get lesser gifts of dried apples and tamari roasted almonds. We were staying several days, and on Christmas Eve I was cooking dinner using some other fresh garlic that I had brought along. My aunt came into the kitchen with her nose wrinkled, asking,"What is that awful smell?" She was never known for her tact. Realizing I was about to give her a very unappreciated gift, I switched the name tags on my gifts so one of my cousins would get the garlic since he had requested some of the hastily set aside garlic in his dish.

What a bummer it would be to give such a great gift to someone who didn't appreciate it!
