Saw this on my friends patio, it was about half as wide as my palm and at least as long as it, a little passed the wrist bone if you count the wings, it was an off white and looked very much like a fly, just much bigger (sorry the picture is blurry, when i got close it would give flying a go but i think it was on its last legs and would only fling itself against the wall or door)
looks like a cicadia
that sounds right i guess, I'd never seen one with such a white reflective body, it looked pretty neat, thanks for the help
