Howdy,
I purchased a mixed bag of morning glory seeds, and now have this beauty growing in my front yard. I'm starting to save the seeds, but don't know what name to label.
Thanks,
Bob
Please help ID this morning glory
Bob - Welcome to the MG Forum. I just saw this new thread by you.
Your bloom is wilted so it is hard to tell what it could be. I did notice that it appears that you have heart shaped leaves. Is that true? If so, it is highly likely that you have an I. purpurea species of vine. Often if you get a mixed bag of seeds, the seeds may produce crosses of the original vines. If so, there may not be a name or reference for the vine/bloom. If you want to save and label the seeds, it's best to use the same label as what you got. Or use "Mixed MG Seeds".
I will check again tomorrow morning, and upload a better photo. Thanks for replying.
The bloom looks like an I. purpurea and usually heart shaped leaves are another indication as well as the sepal in your last photo. It may be a cross. It looks most like "Rebecca" to me by the color: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/82359/
Thank you _so_ much. Now I know what to write on the little plastic bag for a name. :)
Just my guess. Glad I was able to help you. :-) Just remember that seeds from I. purpurea and I. nils may not come true to the mother vine. You could very well get a cross or a recessive gene from any seeds. But for labeling purposes, Rebecca might be a good guess. :-)
