The fun begins!

Yes I will be having Koi in my pond. I was able to catch 9 of 21 before I moved. They are in a water trough waiting for their new home.
We do have racoons so the pond will have a shallow plant shelf with a sharp drop off. I also took my large koi castle from the other house so they have a place to escape. I have not seen any snakes yet, and I hope i don't . Hate snakes. :(

Check out this BBC link I found today. These toads are so beautiful. Glad they were found.

Some of the boulders were place by hand by strong young men.My back hurt just watching them.

What a project. It is really fun to watch, although wish it were in MY back yard. I see the shed is on skids. so it will be moved and placed permanently later? How really exciting.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

The shed will stay as is. The blocks were needed to level it. The existing slab that was there was not level so the shed could not be directly on it as planned. I now need to get some kind of metal wiring/netting to keep local critters from making a home underneath it. Oh Well!

Making good progress today. More pic's to come. :)

realsis..thanks for your willingness to help me find a Koi club. I have so much going on right now..no time for social type events. I promise to look into it when the time is right. Your pond & koi look very nice. On top of what needs to be done with the pond before adding the fishes. They are anxious to get in there soon!

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

BeaHive, how long have the fishies been out of their pond and what is the estimate of their delivery to the new pond. Is the water going into the pond well water or city? Will it need to be de-chlorinated?

Mine is now clear as a bell and a lovely shade of green!! Two UV's and I can't keep the green down. Oh well, the fish like it. Really isn't much green on the rock or floor, so it must be floating in the pond itself Skimmer pad is always green and needs cleaning twice daily. maybe just too much sun -- bite my tongue.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

The koi have been out of the Silverton pond for about three weeks. They are doing just fine in the 100 gal stock tank right now. Has a small filter and some floating plants. They arn't complaining yet!

Well Friday was a great day. The gang spent the early morning digging and perfecting the plant shelf getting ready for the underliner.

I waited all day to see pictures. so glad you posted them. Remind me again how many gallons. And the falls are to the left coming into the pond?

Athens, PA

BeaHive

I am so excited for you! Great Pictures.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

The pond and stream I calculate to be over 5400 gals. The stream goes off to the left and will have a fall to the pond. The pond will be city water and we will make sure to dechlorinate the water and let it run for several days before the koi will be released,

Craig Co., VA(Zone 7a)

Wow, that Bobcat with a "thumb" looks like the perfect machine to gently place those big boulders without any damage to the liner, I will have to remember that when I build mine! What mil is the liner?

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

I know we will see shortly, but is there any gravel going into the pond? Or just big stones around the perimeter to hold down the lining

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

No gravel..river rocks of all sizes. I think delivery is today on some more rocks. :)

Craig Co., VA(Zone 7a)

5400 gallons minus rock displacement equals 1200 gallons! (Just kidding)

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I will know when the water bill comes after filling the pond.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey, be sure that your sanitary sewer rates aren't based on your city water usage. It is here. If we were going to fill a pond that big, we'd have to get the city to come get a meter reading before and after. They we'd just be paying water rates. Otherwise the neighbors have a company come fill their pool with truck water.

Marathon, FL(Zone 11)

What a wonderful pond! I can't wait to see more. It's going to be GORGEOUS!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Despite the drizzle today the entire crew put in a very hard day moving more boulders and river rocks. Here they are hand placing a boulder just right.

Pond building is dirty work. He liked the weight of this rock as opposed to those boulders!

Now the mini river rocks are added to fill all the nooks and cranies.
