The day has been a cloudy one. I was surprised to find a pair of Mallards that were mingling with this Great Blue Heron on the pier next door. Here is the female Mallard with the Heron.
Birds Nesting & Activities in The Garden 2011 vol. #5
Good series, Kim.
That was it. The victorious Mallard drake returned and joined his partner. One can almost see how proud he was being such a bully. Not to down play his agressive behavior. I think this maybe the same pair that occupied the nest earlier in the spring. I shall return tomorrow with any new development. Thank you for watching, please feel free to post your birds story here.
Good morning to you Margaret. It's evening here, I will say goodnight as well. 'Til we meet again. Enjoy.
Awww, there isn't much activity outdoor today. So I'm focusing on projects indoor. One of which is this; a dozen pupae of the meal worms that I'm trying to raise for the birds. I couldn't find any adult beetles at the productive stage. So the commercial meal worms I purchased were used. At this stage they'll soon morph into the adult beetles and soon thereafter will begin to lay eggs.
Nice ducky shots, Kim. My mealies will not start to lay eggs until it is warmer...are yours in a heated area?
Hi Kim,
Yes, they're in nice warm room temp. Mine is a novice attempt. One mere dozen pupa to begin the small colony. Thus far I've two beetles emerged. One has turned dark (matured?) and the other is still light in coloring. Have you had alot success with yours Kim?
