Monarda - Red to Purple?

I have had lots of red monarda in past years, but this year all of it is purple? Does it somehow change over time from the red to purple? I have one entire section that used to be red and it is all purple and there is no red in sight anywhere? Where did it go? My GF is having the same experience - she used to have all red and now nothing but the purple.
I believe the red is the native color.
