DAILY PICS VOL. 406

Norman, OK

Time to start over again and enjoy a new series of beautiful birds. We came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1191391/#new

I'll start things off with an Eastern Kingbird with a colorful moth in it's mouth. It was taking the moth to a nest full of babies.

I had a female Indigo Bunting in the yard the other day. I was hopeful she'd return with a male, but not so far.

I took this pic of a preening Cinnamon Teal awhile back in the Oklahoma Trails Exhibit at the OKC Zoo.

I don't have any pictures to share, but am enjoying the bird visitors you all have. I am quite jealous of the female Indigo bunting. :)

The Papa House Finches have been busy bringing by their little ones and we have some Chipping Sparrows as well. The Robins are still singing and one was up early this morning. Normally, that would keep me awake, but it was rather calming after the pack of coyotes gave me a real scare! My first thought when hearing them, "Did we remember to put the ducks away?!" Yes, they were safe and sound according to my awakened husband.

Wow, Chillybean, coyotes in the garden. That gives me chill bumps! I'm glad everything is okay. Thank you Red for a wonderful start. Love that first pix. I still rather he uses other bugs and leave my moths alone. lol. Nice Crows Nan.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Nice shot of the Kingbird with it's catch, Red! Love the colors of the Cinnamon Teal, beautiful duck. Thanks for a wonderful start..

Chillibean how big was the pack? We saw a pack once, in the early morning, some cross the road in front of our car. The others stop short in the field, when they saw us. There was about 12 of them. Quite a sight to see.
But I agree, when you have chicken or ducks you wouldn't want them around.

Nanny, are they juvies? Isee them here everyday now.I think someone in the neighborhood is feeding them bread or something. I see them pass often, with big chucks in their beak.

burn, lol. asking? It was all right demanding. lol. Priceless.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I do believe one is a juvie but hard to tell unless I see them begging or hear them crying and they are past that point for the most part now. There were 3 but one took off before I took the photo.

Had this Great Blue Heron flying and circling overhead the other afternoon

An Eastern Phoebe was in the yard this morning. I've seen it several times recently, but first time I've gotten a pic. It's really skittish.

Nanny, I've seen them do that here. I was glad to see them going AWAY from my pond instead of towards it. lol

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Red, thanks for the wonderful new start. Love that teal and that kingbird is fabulous. Great shot of the phoebe too!

Nanny, your crows look happy. Great job with the heron overhead.

Burn, nice shots of your birds. That gosling is a cutie.

This must have been a fairly recent fledgling because it didn't seem to know what to do with the bugs in its mouth. It sat on our railing for a while, then put them down and went over to check out the chopped peanuts in the feeder.

Enjoying all the birds. I'm in Tejas and not seeing much of anything. It's too hot to get out and bird!

A pic of the mockingbirds second nest in the front yard. I've finally asserted my dominance on the male mocker. Everytime he came to fuss at me, which was every time I walked outside, I would just say 'Hey, mockingbird' in a calm voice and walk toward him and make him retreat. He just sat on the roof and watched me take this pic. Two of the first brood juvies are almost always in the yard.

Nanny, cute flicker and thrashers! That juvie red-bellied is just adorable! I just learned today that baby crows have blue eyes that turn darker as they age-I'm still looking for one here.

Granny, there's nothing wrong with grackles.

Burn your hairy woodpeckers so cute.

Red, you showed that mocker who's boss, but I'll bet you're really a softy.

We went birdwatching at the state park here this morning and learned that most of the orioles have moved on-ha! They've just moved to our house!

Duc, re. the Grackles, I agree there is nothing wrong with them, it is what they do that is a problem. They are in this farming area in huge flocks, the fields are black with them, as are all of my bird feeders. Yesterday they emptied all of the feeders and hogged down four blocks of suet in three hours time. And that is with my chasing them from time to time. Want me to pack up a few hundred and ship them to ya? Be happy to do that. LOL

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I feel for you GG....only because I am limiting the amount of see I put out do I not have a yard full of grackles & starlings.

Have had a Hairy Woodpecker this week! I got this female...but DH saw a juvie too!
