At a garden show someone brought a flower which was labeled Miniature flowering pomegranate. I would love to buy one but can't find it under that common name. Can anyone tell me the right name? Also they had a bird of paradise at least that's what they called it. It did not look like the bird of paradise that is usually seen. Thanks

The dwarf pomegranate was probably Punica granatum 'Nana' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55136/

There are a few different plants that people call bird of paradise...several plants in both of these genera are known by that name:
