shrub for dry shade?

Pittsburgh, PA

Need to hide a fence--zone 6--dry shade near pines
A shrub that will live and grow?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

maybe the Kerria japonica discussed in another thread

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Eleutherococcus (Acanthopanax) sieboldianus will live in those conditions - and there's 'Variegatus' with white edges to the leaflets.

Bonus: it has thorniness, so trespassers beware!

Saint Louis, MO(Zone 6a)

Mock orange is a tough shrub which will thrive in shady conditions.
My acanthopanax flops too much to be useful hiding a fence, I think.
Neviusia and deutzia are also shade tolerant, though won't bloom as much in shade.
Both reach hedge-like proportions.
Orixa, sorbaria and cephalanthus are also options.
VV could suggest some viburnums which also could work,
though he may reserve them more for starring roles,
rather than the utilitarian function of hiding a fence!
