Plant your okra stories here!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Can you believe I am still harvesting okra??!! I can't pull it up yet because I am healing from a badly herniated disk (no bending, no lifting--can you imagine??). So they just keep making a few every day! I did happen to plant a few seeds for my winter garden. Hopefully I'll get some food from them in the Spring! Janet

Speedy recovery to you Janet. And yes I believe you still harvesting okras. Because ours are still producing here, and we're two zones difference. Not as many, but ours aren't pulled up either. However, in order to satisfy my appetite. I've been stocked up with Commercial okras from the local groceries. lol

Gymgirl, sorry hope you've found some good recipes? Life has taken me away from the garden for a while.

I h ave a great tilapia recipie from West Africa. Chop up a small onion and add lemon juice and red pepper and chopped tomato to make a marinade. Add your fish and let marinate atleast 15 min. Take some banana leaves and wrap each fillet with some okra in the leaf like you're making a burrito. Throw the packets on the grill for 15-20 mins however well done you like your fish. Make sure to turn it over once or twice. You can bring the fish to the table either in or out of the packets. My husband really loves this.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

WHAT A RECIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is MY kind 'a cooking! I can see where the splash of lemon juice would cut the slime from the okras while adding zest to the fish!

Thanks, Yehudith!

I've got a brand new grill, and company coming next week! Guess what one of the dishes will be???
