Help! The gardeners that my apartment hired butchered the nandina in front of my fence. I guess they thought it would be nice to make it a uniform hedge and sheared the tops and sides off the poor things. They now look pitiful. Is there any way I can bring them back to their former glory? I had occasionally pruned them, and strategically removed branches for a full, yet, prunned effect - but now I have bare spots, and some taller nandina were totally de-foliaged! It makes me sick - they were such beautiful plants.
Nandina Pruning
I would probably let them grow back for a bit before you try to do anything--then as they start to grow out you can go back to your former approach of strategic trimming here and there. Do you have any control over what gets trimmed or not around the apartments? If not the bad news is they'll probably be back to ruin them again.
