That is too cool Rita! Gotta love the fluorescent yellow!
Drew, your lily might be l.pardinalum 'Leopard Lily' or l. lancifolium 'Tiger Lily' which always disappointed me that it had spots and not stripes . . .
Anyway, Leopard Lily will be taller, 5 to 7ft. tall with bigger flowers. Tiger Lilies are maybe 3 ft. tall. They sure look like they belong in that jungle of yours.
Pretty philo, Rita!
Still no rain here, but it looks like Mj might have some this afternoon! Over 400 wildfires burning in Florida right now!
Well, we got ohhh, maybe an 1/8th of an inch. Literally skirted around us. But at least it's getting closer !
dzzy, I bet you turn that new found area into a beautiful orchid garden, and
Rita, ....If " I" can grow Orchids I know you can !!!!
Rita, I AM coming to your yard - just gorgeous flowers!
Alice when I go to church tomorrow, I will dedicate the saying of the Rosary to all the people being ravaged by fires and droughts and flooding!
Rita; As per usual, a BEAUTIFUL flower!
I just finished watering the back forty; only takes an hour and a half sometimes two if no rain! Today,it was very windy with humidity only around low 60s. You could see the ground cracking as the tropicals were sucking up the water.(no not really)
nice relaxing sitting area homer.
rita i have never seen that clerodendrum. nice philo i have one that i think is a philo.Warscewiczii? my leaves look a little more shredded.
joeswife is that a jasmine.?
well i am a little nervous today guys are here painting the house. kind of a lime green with dark brown trim. fingers crossed i dont tick off the neighbors. i had to clear out alot of plants for him to even find the house.lol.
Very nice pictures everbody!
well, my neighbors to the south have taken out the mimosa, the hybrid tea rose, several large trees and now the over grown spireas and bridals wreath. limbs and branches are on everything on my side.. I have to move all the shade stuff, cuz now, it is going to be full sun there.. here it was the other day..
I don't know about the Brugs, but the Alocasias and the Colocasias should be fine IF you keep them well watered* I am assuming you are talking about Alocasia plants like Calidora, Odora, and Portora. *(Nothing like A. Sarian and Zebrina).
Crinums will be fine in full sun too. Maybe it won't be as bad as expected. I remember after Hurricane Hugo took out thousands of trees everyone was scared of what all the sun would do to the remaining plants but in the end most things did just fine. You are such a good plant mama, I expect your things will do fine.
Rita, I am lusting after that yellow philodendron, what a find.
Cold damaged Ti finally waking up.
my sarian and zebrina, and the polys are in shade out front. I guess I will have a plant sale. My Favorite rugs are tree size, I will have them moved to the Front. What about the floss tree, persian shield, and ricrac plants? wil I need to move them? or, gee, what about the chalice vine? It was so happy where it is now..
Debra, my brugs do fine with some sun. This old one outside my window gets 6 hours of sun in the afternoons and it's working on its 3rd bloom cycle this spring. As Drew says, just make sure they get enough water.
That being said, I've never had a variegated one before, so maybe Maya will need more shade. But I'd bet it will be fine with morning and evening sun, so maybe put her pot under the wing of one of her big brothers?? My two starts from you are still going gangbusters! Cherub is as tall as me, with pot and is branching from every leaf node. Monster just got a new pot a few days ago and has jumped ahead since then as well. Both are enjoying some sun already, too.
Our HD store has rolls of shade cloth for a pretty reasonable price. Roll out a big screen of shade cloth along the fence with the destructive neighbor? Wish I could send you some of my infinite supply of bamboo poles to hold it up with!
Hey, what happened to that tall, fiddle-leaf fig tree you rescued last winter? It could supply your plants some shade, surely? That puppy will take lots of sun!
Debra, can I buy some of your tree-sized 'rugs? LOL
sorry I am so upset.. it is 101 right now, and I am moving things I am not supposed to be lifting. They ripped my SAC out, and the John Clayton Lonicera, and looks like my poor Moonvine on that fence is gone now. They didn't even keep one piece of the bridal wreath... or the spireas. fig leaf is inside, I thought it was a tropical. my poor lobata is torn up... DH says good riddance to the old elm that homes the squirrels thee and the old locust tree, and the sycamore they said they were leaving? I hate that tree!
I moved the tropical trumpet vine to the corner, maybe it will do something now.. on a positive note, here is the baby philo that someone here sent me..
Debra: How sad that the neighbors had to destroy all the shade, I know the feeling though. Last week my backyard neighbor had a few trees taken down and I didn't know it until a few days after it was done. I had shade plants sitting on my side of the fence in the shade and they were fried from the full afternoon sun. :(
When you refer to Ric Rac plant, do you mean the Ric Rac Orchid Cactus (Selenicereus)? If so, mine grows in pretty much full afternoon sun here in Florida. The plant you have pictured here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=8654079 is Monstera deliciosa and the sun will scorch the foliage. I'm not sure about the other's you mentioned.
Wow, that Lily is really gorgeous!
Deb, That looks like the Lily I posted at the beginning of this thread!
Hey Lin,
How are you doing?
Debra, so sorry about your plants. It looks like they are still getting some shade. Was that taken in the morning or afternoon? I am going to have a similiar problem when we move. Not the neighbor, but not having as much shade as I do now. 90% of what I have is tropical, so I haven't quite figured out where I am going to put everything. We cleared the 3 acres the house is on. But there are several Oak trees around the house so I will probably have to put most things under those. I still owe you some things, I will try to get them out this week.
Love the other plants!
You can buy screening fabric (which I use quite a bit) and also shade cloth at Lowes - check them out online and see if they will help protect your plants.
as always some incredible plants, wish I had shade, but I'm full sun, which if I owned this house I would be having the bamboo on the west side so it would make me some shade so I could try some of the plants yall are showing... just incredible.
Debra I know how sad you are over the loss of those trees, my house in Oh we purchased it because of all the trees in the back yard, when you looked out the window it was like looking and being a part of the forest/park setting... then the one neighbor asks if he could cut a few as in 2 trees on the property line because they block the sun from that area where he wants to put his garden, now mind ya the sun doesn't shine from the north to the south it shines from the east to the west, so trying to be a good neighbor I say sure, but I don't have the money to pay half the cost, he says no problem.....
I come from work to find 8 trees all the trees that were between our yards have been cut down....... I was beyond words, there went all my shade that they cast over my back yard corner for my dogs..... (collies are fond of their shade.)
I was so mad, I didn't speak to them for a long time, although I doubt they suspected I was boiling... DH told me not to say anything,,,, keep the peace with the neighbors.... Well now we are gone and they will see that the trees weren't the problem.

one more tree to go they say, they are leaving the honey locust, but the cottenwood is going next weekend, it is hmongus, but the thing is dead in parts, and the squirrels are nested inside of it.. will post final pics tommroow before cottenwood gone, been cleaning up the broken plants and limbs and stuff..
Debra,
Sorry to hear of the tree loss..some neighbors are great...some the pits...glad there is lots of space between neighbors here. I like them all, but that's one reason most people bought out here...to get away from all that.
Your Root Beer plant will need shade for the most part...maybe a little dappled morning sun.
Rita..The variegated Monstera finally made a new leaf...
mj, it is all good, thanks for the info on rootbeer plant.it is under the pear tree for now.., There is a little shade from our tall elm out back and the big tree they left on the east end, the girl wants me to help her with her brand new yard..they grazed it all to bare earth, found out they are putting a storage shed up right where a tree used to be so that will help.. I get so upset I am sorry I freaked out here.. I lost my cheese cake monstera, it got too wet I think, but u know, it is okay.. right now I am just glad to keep a few things going.. it has been a rough year for all of us gardening wize I think..
Debra; I say you definitely needed to vent! What better way than to do it with your plant friends who truly understand how you feel.
Joeswife, I am sorry that they ruined your weekend, and made it so stressful for you, when you should be relaxing and enjoying the benefits from all the hard work you done last winter but from what I read everyone gave realy good advice.
My advice is to go out and buy your own trees!! There are a few fast growers to choose from.
I also use a lot of shadecloth.
