CLOSED: help with unknown beetle

Looks like a species of Firefly, but I can't tell you which one.

LadyAshley, how do you distinguish between fireflies and carrion beetles, as they appear to be very similar?

It's not similar at all if you know what you're looking at.
Carrion beetles are much rounder/larger, and fireflies have a longer body.
Fireflies also generally (but not always) have some orange on them as well.

in another post on this subject I noted the size 3/4"L X1/2"W, bear in mind I did not get down and measure it as it seemed to be excreting some sort of slime Thank all of you for your interesting comments ..

I remember seeing a group of these around a dead squirrel in my yard when I lived in Maine. Very fast movers - they were fascinating!
