Is this a black widow?

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Found a helper amid some 2qt pots I was cleaning up. Did not turn it over to look for the hourglass, just flung it into the woods after the photo op.

Yep sure is.
Northern Black Widow (Latrodectus variolus)

Or it could also be the Southern Black Widow

Their ranges overlap.
Would have to look at the underside for a more positive ID.

My DW found one just minutes later in debris elsewhere in our yard. We seem to have an abundance as we run across them on a regular basis. Thanks LadyA for the verification.

NP. I just edited my last post again.
Could also be southern black widow. Ranges overlap. If you can get a pic of the underside next time, may be able to give a more detailed ID =3
My mom gets a lot of them at her home on the eastern shore of VA.
I quit weeding bare handed after pulling up two of them among her bark chips lol.
