Japanese Larch problem

I have 2 young Japanese Larch trees, now less than 3 foot tall. Deer ate the top of each. They are growing but it seems like more sideways growth than anything else. Will they develop new central leaders?

Yes, they should do; make sure they only develop one (prune out others if 2 or more develop). And keep the deer off ;-)

When you choose a suitable leader substitute give it some help to grow straight. Try gently training it to grow upright by tying to a stake until it learns it's new direction. It may take a season or two. It worked for me with a crab tree that lost it's leader. The tree is a little smaller than it's twin, but it has a new leader now.
