Here is a few pics of the chickies. On the milk carton we have the silver laced wyandote, a blue/red wyandotte, a partridge rock and an easter egger.
Update on the chickies - They're growing like weeds
Thanks---these pics have helped me confirm that I have one female partridge rock. (Hatched 5 mystery purebred eggs from Murray McMurrays 4 weeks ago.....still trying to figure out what I have).
Kosk - I would hold that thought of it being female for another couple of weeks. The ones I have are just now getting much of their combs on them and it is still kinda hard to tell on them. I think mine are going on 6 weeks old. So far only one looks like it has a bigger one than the other 3, but who knows...I'm a newbie at this and they may all fool me and I end up with all roosters.
Oh my arent they growing up fast! They have really started losing that baby look. It looks as if you are going to have a fine flock of chickens!
Nice coop and run two
That's a nice varity of chicks. They look so gawky at this age LOL
AnnieBBB-
They are funny right now... Sometimes they act like they got a red hot poker poked in their back end by the way they just go tearing off across the floor. Running back and forth...And lots of flying going on too. I am getting to the point of knowing who is going to be the boss around there. Got a Easter Egger and a Silver Laced Wyandotte that keep facing off. They are staring each other and fluffing up the neck feathers to look all tough. I guess they'll get it all figured out in time. Just hope no one gets hurt in the process. I've already had to clean up one little scratch on one of the New Hampshire's comb. I thought for sure that the partridge rocks would be the first to get hurt but they seem to be holding their own. They seem to be pretty brave and were one of the first ones to jump up on the crate I put in there for them to roost on.
Hopefully, this weekend we'll get the last of the coop finished...Just need to block off the space between the building and the ground. We also need to put in some roosts and wall off a space to store gardening and chicken stuff.
Oh they're gonna love having a new space!! Pictures!!!
This is one of my Easter eggers. This one is trying to be one of the top dogs. It goes around and puffs up its neck feathers and fights with a couple others. We'll see if it gets its butt kicked or becomes the head chicken. I can't quite tell if it is male or female yet.
My male faverolle is in the background...
This one has an Easter egger(left) and both my Faverolles (middle two) and a silver laced wyandotte(right). I think the wandotte is a girl because her comb is no where near as big as two others I have...check next picture to see what I mean.
Oh and one other thing. My female faverolle is getting redder and grey on her back...she was quite blond all over when i first got her.
This one has the silver laced wyandotte that I am pretty sure is a male. He is getting the tale-tale sign of wattles under his beak.
Lots of dust bathing going on this afternoon too...dust was going all over.
To give you a run down of who is in the pic... 2 silver laced, 1 blue/red laced wyandotte, a partridge rock (way in the back), and dust bathing is an Easter egger.
Here is the one partidge rock I think is a male posing with an Easter egger.
Also, if you happen to notice, that is red clay that we have for dirt here...So soon my chickens will have a red tinge to them from rolling around in it. I'm glad I don't have any white chickens because they would all turn red in time from the clay dirt. I that will probably rule out having white silkies - I would probably have to bathe them all the time and then I wouldn't probably get it all completely out. It is almost like trying to get those poke berry stains off your hands.
One more....
The wyandotte in the back there is the other male...he is one of the other ones that is competing for top chicken.
In this pic is 2 Easter eggers, 2 wyandottes(boy do they get around), and a partridge rock.
I've been noticing that the EE have been getting more and more of their beards. Those fuzzies under their beaks are so cute...LOL
Wow they are really growing up fast! Such good looking Chickies!
I understand about the dyed red chicks, once they hit the red clay soil you never know from then on out just what their true colors are!
While in the brooder I just add clean play sand for them to dust in. That way I can at least see their true colors until big enough to go out into the world!
Haha, I love watching them fluff in the dirt. They roll all over and really grind it into their feathers. Great looking chickes you have there!!
