how do you hand pollinate morning glories?

Loveland, CO

Is there a good resource (online, book, etc) on how to cross morning glories?
In the past I've let nature take its course and let the bees do all the work.
After seeing all the beautiful photos on this forum I would like to try to cross some myself and see how they turn out.

Does anyone have any advice/tips to share?
Thanks in advance! :)

use a paint brush.

good references to hand pollination are on this thread about mid to later section of first post. very good info there. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/824965/

Steph - Marie is right as to what many gardeners here use to hand-pollinate and cross blooms. If you go down to more than half-way on the sticky thread link she listed, you will see the topic "POLLINATION". There are a number of links listed under that heading and all are very informative.

I personally just take a small fine, soft artist's paint brush and lightly dust the stigma with pollen from the anthers of the bloom or from another MG bloom. Here is a diagram of what stigma and anthers are:

It's very easy to do! Just be careful not to damage the stigma when you do! You'll get the hang of it in no time at all. You can usually see the tiny pollen right on the brush.

Yes, use small paintbrushes, make sure you wash off the pollen after you use it before you use it on another cross. You could mix up all the pollen, that is okay, but, if you want a specific cross, use a clean brush each time. I may have repeated some information in those links and don't know it. I hope this helps.
