It happens that after they encounter a family of Mallards. Then the mother Goose flew off and abandonned her goslings. Hmmmm
Birds Nesting & Activities in The Garden 2011 vol. #4
That DOES seem sort of weird, LL. I think you have a chipping sparrow up there earlier.
Nice ones Lily!
I got a quick look at the Robin babies today when they thought the parent was at the nest. They are so cute, Look to still be sightless.
I just got a few pics of the Robin babies so I'll upload the shots later.
I can't wait to see your Robin babies, Pelle. It has been a week since I last saw the HOSP. I'm so relieved. But, no one has really claimed the same old nest box either. To the front yard however, I've heard and seen alot of activities of Chickadees and Titmice. I saw a juvie HOSFIN went after a Cicada yesterday, it missed the chase. But it was fun watching the little one learning to catch bugs.
Wonderful activity you're all getting. Love that chick, Pelle.
That's too adorable, and really funny a furball. I'm having a good evening. Just saw two Mallard drakes guarding this Mallard hen with her ducklings toward the point. I observed their interaction for a while, then I saw a Great Blue Heron from a corner of the lake, so I knew why the drakes was were hanging close.

That's really sweet. Thanks Pelle, for sharing those sweet pics. Hi Margaret. How are you doing?
Hi Kim. I'm doing just fine. Very busy :)
OMG Pell, how adorable! Love those little 'ears'.
Thanks I love the ears too. :-)
They're so cute Pelle. Look at those wide-eyes.
The cardinals in my neighbor's hedge have successfully hatched. I was weeding last night and the neighbor came over to ask me "how does it look for trimming?" It was so sweet. I had told him about the nest and that he might want to hold off on his spring trim. So we parted the hedge and saw the babies. Probably a few days old as they had some feathers. So I told him about 10 days.
Good news, Marna. Your love of nature is rubbed off on neighbors. Congrats on the neighborhood's new "kids" on the block-- so to speak. lol.
Well, these neighbors are bird friendly, just not enthusiasts. They have one or two feeders out just for entertainment I think. Still, it's funny he came to ask ME, instead of checking himself.

Mrs-Ed We have lots of cardinals on our place have not had any luck finding nest, any pointers as to where I should be looking?
Well let's see. One year they built in the wreath on my front door, Many times they are in the hedge, about 4' off the ground. They have also nested in my other neighbor's lilac bush. I think you just have to watch where they go when they have some nesting material and then snoop around. That's how I found this one.
I read that they build a new nest for each brood. They are also quick to abandon.
Good luck.
Yes, they certaintly are!!! I love, love them. Thanks Pelle.
Nice pics Lily!
They are beautiful, Pelle.
Kim, how fast you goslings are growing.
Well Margaret, the oldest brood we see on the thread, I gathered they're roughly 4 weeks old?
Marna, the catbirds are so secretive, it took me forever to find one in the bush....I guess that's where they're going to hide their nests too. lol. Cute pic.
Well my Robins have left the nest.
