OK, I haven't seen this before.
Has anyone else seen the fabled speckled dogwood?
Here it is!
Maybe I'll patent it and make fabulous royalties!!
Just don't be bursting my bubble by blaming it on a virus;
or some cultural deficiency of trying to survive in my yard...
speckled dogwood
Air pollution.
Ah, V V. There you go again, raining on my parade.
Heck, there certainly isn't any air pollution in St Louis!
But, come to think of it, if I have a plant which gets more beautiful with increasing pollution, I still may patent it. Sounds like a winner down the road!
Do all the blooms look like that? Every year?
Only if St. Louis ozone concentrations get above a certain level while the bracts are opening...
I haven't noticed it before this year.
All the blooms on this tree look this way.
But I'm pretty sure VV is right ...
I live on one of the busiest roads in the metropolitan area.
This particular dogwood is planted nearest the road,
so the pollution theory sounds pretty plausible to me.
With gas prices as high as they are,
my fear is that people will quit driving
and I'll be left with a boring plain white dogwood again...
Who needs clear air and blue skies when you can have speckled dogwoods instead?!!
Exactly!
Rent a Hummer...
