I found it hanging from the ceiling in the living room. It looked like a small leaf until closer inspection revealed it was spider with its legs folded so it looked like a leaf. I took it outside to get more light. It did not try to run but tended to lie down and fold up as if it was camouflaging itself. Here it is walking. It reminds me of an orb weaver, but in my experience they are always outside.
Identify brown San Diego spider that imitates a leaf
It's an orbweaver of some sort.
I'm not familiar with west coast spiders, but maybe Arabesque Orbweaver (Neoscona arabesca)?
There's a lot of variation in the species, and can be found in your area.
Thanks. It kinda looks like an orb weaver to me too. Here is a close up of its eyes. I think I read somewhere that eyes are a good way to identify spiders, and these appear similar to pictures of Neoscona arabesca eyes I found on the internet. The leaf camouflage posture may be common in orb weavers. I'll pay more attention to the ones I find outside. This one may have accidentally hitchiked into the house.
Most likely =3
Or just came in by accident.
In the summer, the side of my house is completely covered in Furrow Orbweavers that build their webs near the outdoor lights!
