We came from Here...http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1172013/#new
Here's an Orchid that just opened today for me. This is another one that was one of my sister's before she passed away.
Tropical Garden #99
That is beautiful!
Rita, Glad to hear you are feeling much better!
Rita, Glad you are doing well.
I am starting Caster Bean seeds today. I started some a month or more ago and they grew so fast and got so leggy that I decided to toss them and just start more later. I so enjoyed my Castor plants last year.
MJ: Thanks for the new thread! Wow, that is a beautiful orchid! It's so nice that you have plants from your deceased sister's collection. Do you have a name for that particular orchid ... love the color.
Rita: What is that beautiful flower you posted here at the end of the other thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=8518557 My first thought was a Plumeria/Frangipani, then I thought maybe a Rhododendron ... but when I enlarged it there's so much pretty foliage I'm not so sure what the bloom belongs to but I like the nice colors of that flower.
Cordyline fruticosa 'Tricolor'
I love variegated foliage and have always loved Croton's (Codiaeum). This is Croton 'Andrew'. It's a small plant that I've had for a few years now, I grew it from a cutting of a large plant that didn't survive the winter freezes of 2009/2010. This plant hasn't grown much at all but I've kept it inside for a long while and the low light may have stunted it's growth ... and it also might help if I'd pot it up to a larger container, it's very root bound.
I'm usually not partial to crotons, as some seem kind of gaudy, but that green and white one of yours is lovely, Lin. Pretty foliage on the Peace Lily, too.
Speaking of gaudy, I was given a start of this coleus "Florida Sun Rose" and I may have to give it away unless it gets itself under control! The one I wanted was "Inky Fingers" which is deep purple with light green margins on a deeply cut leaf. Oh well . . . I may learn to love this one, it's doing so well.
Boy I sure to like that "Florida Sun Rose" coleus. I have a couple of trays of baby coleus.
Holly Ann, I'll most likely need to prune it to keep it from engulfing its pot-mates, I'll try to start you a cutting. It's only about 8" high and wide right now, but growing visibly.
Our weather can get really hot and dry in May, and my cuttings do better when it's more humid.
Love that orange begonia, GAgirl! My mother had one years ago with the silver-spotted leaves just like that, but the flowers were pink. She grew it in her dining room window up in Vancouver, Canada and it got huge! Do yours grow outdoors in summer up there in Georgia?
Hello Everyone!
mjsponies, thanks, that is a special orchid! I hope that it stays with you for a very long time.
homer1958, thanks, I hope that your banana bloom is still hanging in there.
Those were some outstanding pictures, I can't pick just one, I love them all!
I have waited a very long time for this Hedychium Longicornutum to bloom, it is not in full bloom as yet but I could not resist showing it off.
plantladylin, that is indeed a Plumeria, it is covered with the Dutchmans pipe vine, and a variegated red hibiscus.
This is a Clerodendrum Bleeding heart vine in a hanging basket, the plant in the background is a Queen Palm. I told everyone that I will have to cut it down but I didn't have the heart. It has grown so much that it pushes up the plastic.
Wow, y'all sure do have some beautiful blooms right now!
GaGirl: I love, love, love that orange flowered Begonia! I have a couple with leaves that look similar but they bloom pink. Very nice variegation on that Hoya carnosa compacta! I have a large solid green one but can't seem to keep the variegated one alive for some odd reason. Which Medinilla is that beauty? I have M. magnifica ... currently being neglected behind the shed in the weeds. I really need to get it out and trim it up and tend to it to try and get it back to it's former magnificent self, LOL.
HollyAnn: Wow, that's a lot of Coleus! I joined a Coleus co-op last year and got some pretty ones but they didn't do very well. I've bought many from the big box stores in the past that thrived for a long time until our horrid winter of 2009/10.
Rita: Wow, beautiful blooms ... your photo's always make me wish I had a big greenhouse! You can really grow girl! That Hedychium is really amazing, I bet it's a show stopper when in full bloom! Love your Clerodendrum thomsoniae too ... I never thought they could be grown in hanging baskets! Do you keep it pruned to shape it and keep the size in check?
Well, I don't have any blooms to share but thought I'd post this picture of a lazy squirrel eating the loquats in my neighbors tree.
My Hobby Greenhouse Assoc does a co-op buy I got about 80 tiny little coleus plugs. All in all I got about 1600 tiny plants.
I do love flowering maples -- can anybody tell me where a good source for plants and/or seed? Thanks!
Sharon
Lin,
That is the magnifica, I have two other magnifica, and two other kind. I just love them, if you aren't going to take proper care of your baby, just send her to me and I'll nurse her back to health. LOL
Rita, love the blooms
mjs, thanks for the new thread and I like the color on that special Orchid of yours.
Lin, I am not a fan of Crotons but the one you showed is very pretty and so is your Cordyline.
Paula, please post a picture of the Medinilla bloom so I can get tempted all over again with getting one.
Rita, so good to hear your feeling better. Your Hedychium Longicornutum and Billbergia are both gorgeous.
Those coleus already look like a tapestry in the making - really gorgeous!
Yikes, 1600 - that's a lot of little plants to take care of!
will do
