DH made the cages. First he said to warn that this wire can really hurt you. It is wound like a tight spring.
The squares are 6 inches. He rolled off 11 squares and cut the last one before the vertical wire at the end of the 11th square. That leaves 6 inches of wire sticking out that you bend about one inch of that wire around the first vertical wire to make the circle.
DH also said you need bolt cutters to cut the wire and a strong pair of heavy duty wire cutters (commonly called Klines) to bend the wire to connect the circle. He also cut the bottom horizontal wire off so as to leave 6 inch wire legs to stick in the ground to balance it somewhat. Drove a piece of rebar about 18 inches long in the ground beside each cage and wired it to it so the wind wouldn't blow the cage over.
Did that make any sense at all? I hope it helped somewhat.
How do you protect your garden from a freeze in this wind?
Perfectly clear to me, thanks.
Great instructions.
