2011 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 1

Melbourne, FL

Starting a new thread for all your soon-to-come photos of the Ruby-throats. This is the solitary female I have right now, but I am sure enjoying her visits. The old thread is here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1160881

While I grabbed a camera in persuit of a Monarch butterfly in the garden, this very first female (?) RBT hummingbird buzzed me overhead. I missed the Monarch, but got my jewel.

Even on the 'burst mode' I got the feeder (instead the bird) in focus on the second try! :((

Cute hummers GP and Lily! GP, your feeder is a cute one! Lily, don't give up, those hummers don't sit still for long so we all get photos like yours.

Thanks Duc, I was working out in the garden right directly beneath the feeder. A male arrived just over my head, lol. I looked up and he was busy sipping nectar (about inches from my head) and didn't pay me no mind. I've seen on utube where they will come feed out of your hands. Amazing little birds.

Nice shots GP and Lily!

Anybody up North seeing them yet?

No, and with this strong northerly wind, not likely to see any soon. Although they are already north of me.

New Albany, PA(Zone 5b)

Has anyone seen any hummingbirds around New albany, Pa?

Marlton, NJ

I had another male hummer yesterday. They do seem more relaxed on the raised perch feeder.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Our first Hummer showed up on April 10th and we have had 4 males and 1 female for the past week. We have had such terrible wet and cold weather and I am so thankful that they seem to be doing well. We had a bad storm the other night and I think it may have kept any others from arriving.

Not too many photo ops but here are a few I managed to get...hope you like them and hope everyone has Hummers real soon.

Wonderful shots Rose!!
Hope your weather improves soon.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

That IS amazing that we all are so enamored with the iddy biddy birds. Nothing here yet that I know of. Stinky weather here too.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Such cute photos Rose and GP! Rose, that "yawning" is adorable.

Melbourne, FL

Great detail in your shots, Rose.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Great photos. They're so beautiful!

PERTH, Australia

The threads on the Hummingbirds are such a treat for me, having never seen one.

Rose, would you be able to recognize the one that had the bee stuck on his beak a couple of years ago, if he turned up?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you all for the nice compliments...I am really looking forward to some warm and sunny days with these jewels.

Margaret, I don't think I would recognize "Humbee" but I keep watching and hoping.

Here is one from yesterday...

Nice shots. My little female is still coming to the feeder several times a day.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

So nice to see pics finally!! I got a couple of one yesterday......but I did see him on the feeders several times yesterday! I have to get my setup arranged for the front window today. DH has had his puzzle table by the window so got to move it! lo

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nice ones Minn and Nanny!!

Mrs. Ed....LOL...glad you are having some action!!

It looks like the regulars are starting to show...we have about a dozen now.

The guy on the right cracks me up the way he's standing (probably the angle I'm shooting but funny anyway)!!

Can't believe they are sharing!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Marna, and sharing among two of them? How about when Rose got several dozen at a time? Isn't that something else. She must not shared her 'training technique' with us. lol.

Melbourne, FL

I remember visiting my Aunt in Ohio years ago, and she had a feeder right outside her screened porch. Every morning there would be several Hummingbirds at a time feeding.

Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

Didn't get a picture, but I saw my first hummingbird today! I'll just have to enjoy your pictures!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Congrats Rose1656.

Marlton, NJ

Congratulations Rose!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Saw my first hummingbird today. Only a glimpse as it zoomed off after Mr. Ed said "A hummingbird!"

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Congrats Marna. It would have stayed a bit longer if Mr. Ed didn't say a word do you rekon? LOL.
