Location: Brisbane, Australia
Found NEAR potted basil.
No wings that I could see. It was about the size of.. a horsefly maybe?
Hoping someone recognizes this insect, it looks very curious indeed!

I did a search for Australian insects and came up with Elephant Weevil, Orthorhinus cylindrirostris.
