Spring/Summer 2011: Growing plants indoors under lights

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I am going to continue to grow some of my seeds/vines indoors under shop lights. Less issue with bugs and rust fungus. I want to cross some and will do that with some new grow-outs.

I don't remember when I started these Blue Speckles F2 seeds, but the seeds came from the F1 Blue Speckled variegated vine. I am growing 2 of these which appear to be very similar. Both have really beautiful variegated leaves. Unfortunately, the blue speckles have all but disappeared. Just a sparse splash of blue specks on mainly white blooms. I am getting a few seed pods, so will grow them out as the F3 to see what I get. The original vine was amazing and the seeds have produced some really interesting vines/blooms.

This is what one of the vines looks like. I need to add the mini-trellis to the cup to get it climbing! I love the variegated leaves on this vine! I wished the blue flecks were more pronounced. Oh well ... shall be interesting to see if the F3 has speckles at all ...

Becky, yes, some are coming out like this here too, but, I think that each seed has its own genes in there, so some will have more speckled genes than others, still, this is very nice and is a good different mg, and very special, won't look like all of the others. I like the variety we are getting, of course, if you are trying to stabilize it, then it could be a problem, but I still love the nice differences in these.

A - I am trying to stabilize it, but it's exciting all the varied vines and blooms I've been getting! :-)

Becky, just now enlarging this pic, stunning bloom !!

Thank you, Jackie! I am looking forward to seeing what the F3 produces. ;-) So far, neither of the two I planted have germinated. Grrrr ... Luckily, the vines have several more seed pods on them. Whew! I hate it when seeds I really want to grow don't germinate for whatever reasons ...

I love the "freckles." I wonder if it's because I have so many on my skin? lol
Truly beautiful blooms & foliage, Becky!

Thanks, Nick! I am very partial to speckled blooms! One of my favorite bloom patterns on MGs! :-)
