We're seeing some fantastic birds from north of the line. I haven't had much to contribute lately, but managed to take a few photos yesterday to kick off the new thread. I'll start with a sweet female Pink and Grey Galah in one of the eucalypts on the property line.
We've come from here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1171046/#new
Daily bird pix # 393.
Laughing Turtledove. I've got one of these inside at the moment. I saw it yesterday walking with great difficulty and really struggling to fly. I think it had escaped from a hawk that's been hanging around. DH managed to get it today and we've got it in a cage overnight and will review it in the morning. Hopefully its leg isn't broken and just very sore. It briefly got up onto a perch early this evening, which is a good sign, although it didn't remain there very long. It's eating and drinking and there are no other obvious injuries. If it is unable to weight bear tomorrow, I'll take it to the local vets. Fingers crossed, folks.
nice start!
Look at those feet on the cormorant
Holy cow those are big!! The Galah is just gorgeous...perfect start Margaret !
VA_Wild_Rose, Your "Strutting his Stuff" in the last vol. has to be the best Grackle pic yet!! Excellent!!!!,
Bill
Margaret, The Rainbow Lorikeet is a very pretty bird. thanks for starting the new thread. Was almost spring here yesterday, at 64 degrees, our warmest day so far this year.
I planted 3 sprouted cuts of German Butter Ball potatoes in a large black plastic pot with amended soil, yesterday. I know it isn't quite Good Friday yet, but my son is still here taking care of me and he could mix the soil and fill the pot. So will hope warm weather continues and no hard frost.

Great start Margaret... I love cockatoos, but that cormorant is fantastic!
Great start Margaret! Love the Galah and the Cormorant with his funny feet!
I put the birdbath back up and filled it with cool water, hopefully it will draw other birds than just sparrows.
Wow, I've missed a whole thread of wonderful photos. Too many to comment on, but great shots everyone.
Margaret, thank you for the new thread. I always look forward to seeing your beautiful birds. That Galah is gorgeous and I love the Lorikeet in the pretty blooms. You know I love that little Pied Cormorant-so cute with the feet spread out.
Red, love the condo shot. Hope you got to see one of the pileated.
Donna, glad to hear your son is still taking care of you. Hope you continue to get stronger.
We put the tabletop fountain out on the deck a couple days ago and this hummer quickly claimed it as his own. Not a great photo as I took it through the window and the sun wasn't out yet.
Very nice pics duc! I see all 3 types of birds at the Osprey nest, that makes it even more interesting.
Those Orioles are gorgeous!
Margaret. great start to a new thread. Your pic of the Pink and Grey Galah shows a pretty bird!
reddirtretiree, your pileated condo was cool. Any doors on back?
ducbucln, hummer, you got a hummer?! Guess I got to put my hummer feeder back out. AND would you be able to indicate the Acorn Woodpecker, starling and sparrow in that nest photo. I don't see them.
Bye
Hack

Like that Pileated Condo red!
This is our birdbath, the downy woodpecker came down and got on the upside down feeder while we were sitting there. There are some birds who won't eat at the feeder but will drink the water isn't there? I thought I heard something about that. Don't know how long the birdbath will last though, there was a raccoon who kept coming down the tree for a drink and tipped the top off and started to chip it, so that is why I have hesitated to put it back up.
Duc... that is so cool that so many species share the nest and immediate area around it!
Duc, I was just wondering when that great birdbath would be set up. Ingenious design. I love the Osprey shots. I can see the Starlings and Sparrows as well.
Love the Woodpecker condo, Red. How are the Bluebirds going?
From this afternoon. A pair of Pink and Grey Galahs landed in the big gum tree which is to the side of where I perch to watch the Ospreys. The female (left) has the pink eye and the male the dark eye. They pair for life and do a lot of mutual preening and gentle beak touching.
Hack, yes hummingbirds are here in our region. My feeder are up too. gp the Great Creast Flycatcher is pretty even from a distance. Margaret, the 28 are just gorgeous as it's. Love those tree bark and the Galah are so peacefull a loving pair.
Can't wait to see our little hummers too, I have planted flowers that they like, so hopefully the air will be filled with the buzzing of little wings(and not bees). I know we will have them too, because they like the Rose of Sharon and I have 2 bushes of them.
GP, cute photo of your flycatcher. According to my calendar, I should be seeing a flycatcher here later this week.
Margaret, that first picture of the galah pair is priceless! That Twenty-eight Parrot shot is pretty. Each of us has hopes of getting one particular bird's photo in the right lighting-I do hope you'll get yours soon.
Nanny, glad your thrashers have arrived. You're right, it is exciting when our seasonal birds start to appear. Cute Song Sparrow too.
Like Margaret, my hope is to get a perfect photo of a male Red-winged Blackbird in the perfect lighting. Haven't gotten it yet, but I did catch this female Red-winged at the park.
