Oh Joy, I am sorry you have pneumonia again. I have had pneumonia, so I know how you feel. Take it easy and feel better soon.
Pond Questions.
Joy, the pond can wait. Take time now to get your rest and relax. When you are better, the weather ought to also be better. Take care,
Mary
Please take care of yourself, Joy. The pond and everything else is unimportant at this point.
I'm feeling better every day..The Dr.says my lungs are clear now.I have bronchitis but it is clearing too.The men are here cleaning my yard. This is their second day and I'll need them one more day.The pond is cleaned and the fountain-pump are running. All the fish survived. They thinned the waterlilies and fertilized them.We don't know if the lotus is alive.Time will tell. This is what the pond looks like today.JOY
Joy, so glad you are feeling better. And look at your fishies!! They stay in that little pond all winter? I am sure somewhere up top you mentioned this. And that it doesn't freeze up. We have all our pumps going and I have applied the stuff to break down sludge and eat algae. It makes a bit of a temporary mess out of the surface of the water, but that makes the fish feel safe and they came out! I spotted 15, almost a full contingent that was there last fall including my big koi and the little koi I bought last summer. Big guy is only 10-12" and about 3" around, but he is the big kahuna in my pond. I am so thrilled they survived. Maybe we finally have the right process for winter. I repotted my water lilies in kitty litter. Sooo much nicer. Hardly a whisper of stuff floated in the water. And the tubs are much lighter. Put in Jobe's tomato spikes for fertilizer per someone's suggestion here. The water is running about 45-52. Need to start the UV's up soon to stay ahead of the algae. I have no shade so it grows like mad.
Again, I am so glad you are feeling better. Just beat that bronchitis and you can relax and enjoy your fish and pond.
Mary
Just saw the post about the 'fallen woman'. lol. You did mention her earlier. Glad she will be back on her pedestal. That is one heavy statue. Needs a good base to keep her upright.
Joy,
So glad you are feeling better. I know that pneumonia can really knock one down for quite some time. Please do take care of yourself.
What a sight - your pond with all your fishies..... they look like they are saying 'Here we are!!'
The pond is looking great as is the fallen woman/Shady Lady. So glad to hear you're feeling better!
Seems the 'fallen woman' has been 'shown the way'.....
Ha! And it took two men to do it!
The men have left and I won't need them back for a while.Amazing what they managed to do. They weeded and cleaned the flower beds front and back, pruned the roses, cleaned the pond, moved a large Limelight Hydrangea and spread the leaf mulch on the flower beds.I consider that I don't travel anymore and my garden is my pleasure in life. I'm planting an Invincible Spirit Hydrangea in place of the cedar.I'm getting some diatomacous earth to spread to keep the slugs down.JOY
Nice color on the Limelight. How big does it get?
The reason I moved my Limelight was because it was so large,It must have been more than 10' tall and wide too.I'm looking forward to "Twist and Shout" and "Endless Summer" They have both wintered well.I love the long bloom period of Hydrangeas.I'm planting Invincible Spirit this year too.Isn't gardening fun? I see they have a Wisteria at our nursery this year.It is supposed to be hardy here.I have a gift card burning a hole in my pocket.I like to spend gift cards on something exotic that I wouldn't normally buy.JOY
Was yours in shade or sun, Joy? I love hydrangeas, too, and have a wide array of them. The pink ones are my favorites but they're all so lovely.
Go spend the gift card! It was meant for you to enjoy and you seem to have found the ideal plant to keep you smiling.
I love hydrangeas myself....
I feel the same way about gift cards. Like 'found money' to be used on something you wouldn't normally buy for yourself. Hmm. Mother's day is coming. wonder if I can parlay that into a GC from Damien. Nah. He is already having the putting green dug up to make more garden space. He has been beyond kind and generous with my gardening. He says he knows it is, next to him and my kids, what keeps me going.
Joy
what a gorgeous yard you have. I love the area you have to sit outside...
I can only imagine how beautiful your yard looks when all that green bursts into bloom. Yours is so much greener than mine. But I do have all my fishies out and hungry. They are still very bashful and tend to run and hide in the rock when they see a shadown. But I received one of the water lilies I ordered and I potted it this morning when I found it on my doorstep from UPS (delivered last night). I was still in my bathrobe but didn't want to wait to get it potted and in the water. It has two flowers and is gorgeous. I only have had pink before. I do hope it will live through our winter at the pond bottom. I just say a curious magpie drinking from the pond, then picking up nesting materials from my still brown lawn..
Happy Mother's Day to Joy and the rest of us who are mothers and we truly are all mothers to something!

Mistella ; How lucky to get a water lily with a bloom...talk about instant gratification!!Pirl I'm not responsible for all the parties. It's my family.I just attend. We are having perfect weather for mother's day......just the way it should be.....so many buds just waiting to burst into bloom.JOY
Happy Mothers day....
the weather here today is gorgeous. DH and I had our coffee this morning out on the back deck by the pond. Friday night, DD came into town and she and DS and my grandson had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner for me. It was wonderful. DD is on her way back to Boston now, but I will see her next month when we go out there.
Happy Mothers' Day everyone.
Now Carolle those really are fish!!Are they Koi? ..so colourful. My GD brought me some blood worms for the fish.I gave them a square but they ignored the worms......didn't know they were getting a gourmet treat.Guess they are just " common fish"JOY
You must have a very large pond.I was given some years ago but they didn't survive.I can't remember if I had a heater then.I don't think my pond is large enough for them.JOY
Carolyn, is that a crabapple. I wish mine were all bloomed up like that. Soon though, very soon...
MS -
No, it is a Kwanzan cherry - I picked that tree up at a close out sale for $10.
It opened up more yesterday with the warm weather. I expect to see it all the way open tonight when I get home from work. Love the tree - there are a couple of days when it drops it's flowers that we have to be right on top of cleaning out the skimmer, but it's not bad.
It's beautiful.
Arlene -
thank you. I love the double pink blooms and there is no fruit to contend with, that is nice as well. At least with my Louisa crab, the squirrels take all the fruit, so there is no mess with that one either.
