Are these young Eastern Lubbers?
CLOSED: Grasshopper ID
I have them every year, you got some tough grasshoppers. The birds do not eat them, when they get older they will turn red under the wingand that warns the birds not to eat them. They eat anything, new shoots and leaves, love hydrengea and any new leaf on flower. I catch them in the morning, they are sunning on top of bushes. I put a zip loc bag over my hands and just kill them that way. I think the better way to have sharp scisors and cut them in half. It is messy , but I have been fighting them 8 years and can't get rid of them. Next I will try the mix of hot peppers, garlic and onion spray, but will see. Call the county extention agency, they my help.
I hope that is a confirmation of my ID. Thanks for your help.
