What is this fly? (Extremely small)
There are some tiny flies called fruit flies or fungus gnats --because that's what you find them attracted to.
I have some tiny little flies, even smaller than a fruit fly, that seem to live in the dirt of some of my house plants. I believe they came in either with a plant I bought or a bag of soil. I can't tell if they are harming the plant and I only see them if I disturb the pot. Not sure if I should spray with a mild soap solution, if that would help, or just leave them be.
Many people are bothered by those fungus gnats. I don't think they hurt the plant, just annoy the people. Without reading up on them, I suggest scraping off some of the top of the soil (where more larva might be), spraying with some houseplant insecticide, and topping with fresh soil, and water from the bottom only, or at least take care not to overwater the plant.
Thanks, here is some info I found. Your advice is spot on.
