Western conifer seed bug.
Don't touch, they STINK!
And it DOESN'T come off your hands.
LadyAshley - Do western conifer seed bugs inhabit the east coast? FYI - use lemon juice to remove stink bug stink from your skin. Really works.
Yes they do, I live in western maryland, and they are quite the pests, always getting into my house and buzzing around!
They originally started out west, but have "expanded their range" lol.
That's good to know! I scrubbed and scrubbed with soap, and still stank like stagnating oranges.
Are you sure you are not thinking of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, which has become a major pest in our area? They invade peoples homes in large numbers for overwintering and this past year devestated many agricultural crops in PA, MD, VA and WV. See:

LadyAshley, you definately nailed the ID. I checked and they have extended their range to this area, plus they do enter homes in large numbers. I should have checked first. I'm just surprised that you have a problem with these instead of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs which are a true plague in much of the counties surrounding you. I live 50 or 60 air miles from you and out here we had thousands covering the outside of our house last fall. A nearby DGer has been collecting 50 to 100 each evening inside her home lately! Thanks for the ID.
NP, I have a pine forest behind my house, so I get a plague of them myself. Had the first one of the year in my bathroom this last week
